Visit a lively, friendly community with a strong identity, wonderful shops and many restaurants. There are first-class primary and secondary schools, a good selection of businesses and organisations, hotels, and guest houses.

Although in the heart of beautiful countryside, travelling to and from Crickhowell town is easy. London is 3 hours, Birmingham 1.5 hours, and Cardiff just 40 minutes. The nearest bus station and railway station is Abergavenny, (6 miles). The nearest airport is Cardiff International (45 miles)

Local Places of interest are the Big Pit mining museum where you can actually experience what it is like to work in a coal mine. Abergavenny Castle and the Newport to Brecon Canal. Hill walking, wildlife conservation and other attractions in and around the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales,

CRICKHOWELL (Crucywel), four miles southeast of Tretower, bank of the river Usk, makes for a lively base from which to explore the surrounding area. apart from a grand seventeenth-century bridge , with thirteen arches visible from the eastern end and only twelve from the west, spawning many a local myth.

Table Mountain (1481ft) provides a spectacular northern backdrop, topped by the remains of the 2500-year-old hill fort ( crug ) of Hywel, accessed on a path past The Wern, off Llanbedr Road. Many walkers follow a route north from Table Mountain, climbing two miles up to the plateau-topped limestone hump of Pen Cerrig-calch (2302ft).

Arts Alive!

Arts Alive is an arts organisation based in Crickhowell which encourages young people and adults to explore and develop their creative talents through a wide variety of arts activities.

Arts Alive staged their own festival Dragon Gateway Festival ran at the end of June/beginning of July and was a celebration of arts in the widest sense. It included theatre performance, poetry, an evening of rock bands, illustrated talks and presentations, exhibitions and a grand festival day with a festival procession and a live open-air theatre performance with Crickhowell's own giant puppet dragon. The festival was a big success and they hope to build this into an annual or biennial event for Crickhowell.
